It's hot outside! - Try these 4 cooling Ayurvedic drinks

As the temperatures rise outside, we want to keep the body and mind cool with our food and beverages.

According to Ayurveda, the beverages we drink should be at room temperature and not have ice.

The digestive fire (Agni) tends to be weaker in summer than in winter, so we shouldn't douse out that fire with iced drinks.

These are 4 Ayurvedic drinks you can make at home with a few ingredients.

They will keep you cool, keep the body hydrated, and hopefully keep your mind in balance too :)

Indian salted Lassi :

This is a refreshing and savory yogurt-based drink that is popular in many parts of India. It's a perfect beverage to beat the summer heat and is enjoyed as a cooling and healthy option. Here's a simple recipe to make salted lassi at home:

Ingredients:

1 cup plain yogurt (preferably full-fat)

1/2 cup water

1/4 teaspoon roasted cumin powder

1/4 teaspoon black salt (kala namak), or regular salt to taste

A pinch of black pepper

A small piece of fresh ginger, finely grated

Fresh coriander leaves (cilantro) for garnish

Instructions: In a blender or mixer, add the plain yogurt, chilled water, roasted cumin powder, black salt, black pepper, and ginger. Blend the mixture until it becomes smooth and frothy. If you prefer a thinner consistency, you can add more water. Taste the lassi and adjust the seasoning according to your preference. Add more salt or pepper if needed. Serve immediately and enjoy the delicious and refreshing salted Lassi.

Watermelon, Mint, and Lemon Drink:

Ingredients:

4 cups fresh Watermelon pieces, deseeded

1 handful of fresh mint leaves 1 lime, juiced 1 sprinkle Himalayan pink salt Instructions:

Put the watermelon, mint, lime juice, and a sprinkle of salt into a blender and mix well. Let it rest for 2 minutes; then, enjoy your drink.

Rose water & Yogurt Lassi:

Very different, delicately flavored with rose water; this is a great addition, try it. This has been my new favorite this summer!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup fresh yogurt

1 cup water

1 tsp. organic Rosewater

1 tsp organic honey

1 cardamom pod seeds, crushed

Instructions:

Blend all ingredients until smooth; let it rest for 2 minutes and then drink.

Cucumber & Aloe Lassi :

I have shared the traditional Lassi at the beginning of this post, but this version is slightly different! This has cucumber & aloe. It tastes fresh, and yummy and is considered to make your skin glow!

Ingredients:

1 small handful of Cilantro, rinsed 2 cups organic coconut water 1 small Persian cucumber, diced peeled, deseeded 1 tsp organic aloe vera gel juice of 1 lime 1 tablespoon maple syrup

1 tsp Himalayan pink salt

Instructions:

Blend the cilantro leaves, coconut water, aloe vera gel, juice of the lime, maple syrup & salt first. Then, add diced cucumber and blend well. You can sieve the blended mix to get the essence of the juices. Adjust salt and maple syrup for optimum taste. Enjoy!
